FAQs
-
Is the technology scientifically proven?YES! Hundreds of research papers have proven the techniques, with initial research carried out in the 1970’s by NASA, however it has taken over 50 years to produce a technology capable of delivering the right mixture of combustion gases. And that technology is the HydroDrive.
-
How much does the HydroDrive cost? The Hydrodrive costs around £2,900, including life-time maintenance (3years), but the full unit cost can be deducted from profits before tax (Annual Investment Allowance) in the UK with alternates existing in the EU, which in essence means a zero cost to your company. The B9 liquid that we use is bought as a separate item at a minimal cost per year dependant on the size of the engine and miles done.
-
What percentage fuel saving can we expect? The Hydrodrive has two focus areas, (1) Reduction of Particulate Emissions (2) Reduction of Carbon Dioxide Emissions. We envisage a reduction in diesel usage of between 2 and 10% with a corresponding reduction in CO2, which in some cases can reduce the tax on your vehicle.
-
How does the HydroDrive reduce emissions? The Hydrodrive reduces emissions by improving the Diesel fuel combustion process. The concept of injecting Hydrogen to create better combustion has been around for a long time after initial research was conducted by NASA. See question NUMBER for further information.
-
Is it true that the HydroDrive is FREE in the UK?In principle YES! The UK government as part of its campaign to reduce the UK to zero carbon footprint by 2050 is incentivising the uptake of new emissions reduction technology. In terms of payment, your accountant in the UK will claim Annual Investment Allowance (AIA), which means that the full capital cost is deducted from profits, therefore no cost to your company. We will set the monthly premium lower than the expected savings, allowing you to maximise your fuel cost savings, thus increasing your profit potential.
-
Can the HydroDrive be installed quickly? The installation time should take about an hour perhaps a little longer, but this will be carried out when the vehicle is on “downtime”. The product is remotely monitored and maintained by a qualified Smart-H Engineer as part of a service regimen and the electrolyte top up is similar to topping up the windscreen washer bottle and done by the vehicle operator.
-
Is the HydroDrive CE approved?YES! The Hydrodrive has been designed to CE and UL specifications.
-
Can the HydroDrive damage the engine?NO! All we are doing is adding a tiny blend of better combustion gases. We have no more effect on the engine than if the vehicle were used in Denver then the Oxygen levels go down to the air intake due to higher altitude, or if you went past a Sewerage plant the methane level has gone up (Indeed the units have actually been tested in Denver and proved that the HydroDrive can compensate for altitude differences). We are also covered by third party Liability Insurance up to ₤1M.
-
Once the HydroDrive has been installed for a month will we experience any increase in power?Possibly, however the changes are small, big enough to be picked up with instrumentation, but usually too small for an operator to notice. Lower emissions and improved fuel economy are our focus.
-
Is the technology a replacement for the SCR system and Adblue? In principle the HydroDrive could replace this technology, however we see the unit as the next generation of Emissions Reduction Technology.
-
I am reading online that there are many such systems in the USA, how is Smart-H ‘s HydroDrive any different?"YES! There are competing technologies and there have been previous systems, however almost all the research shows that it is Hydrogen Injection that produces positive results. The HydroDrive produces a flow of necessary gases only. We separate out the Hydrogen using a specialised gas seperation technique that we designed in-house. Injection of any additional gases, for example Oxygen (O2), will act negatively and increase some emissions, because the O2 sensors on the engine and exhaust will also compensate for an increase in O2 and perhaps alter any beneficial outcome.
-
If the HydroDrive is so good why haven’t manufacturers integrated it into their engine design? Many alternative emission reduction technologies are under investigation by the manufacturers; however creating a usable product has been a 10 year process for us. Given time we would expect to see the units used as part of an accepted technology suite for reducing emissions. We are already in discussions with a major manufacturer!
-
How can I get onto the program?Smart-H is actively seeking operators that want to have the greenest vehicles. If you are a fleet owner of more than 100 vehicles we will offer a premium discount package for you to be part of our partnering program. You can contact us directly or through the website. We are also actively seeking partners to be part of our research program, taking advantage of potential government grants in a Six Sigma process of continual improvement.
-
Is the top-up liquid toxic in any way?NO! Definitely NOT!! Our Green chemistry is one of the many reasons that the "HydroDrive Energy Cell™" is unique. While others use rare earth minerals, exotic substances that are difficult to manufacture, and even worse have to have special disposal regulations imposed by the EPA, our B9 GREEN-Chem is exactly that, Benign. Made from a special unique blend of FDA and EU approved ingredients, ourtop-up liquid is so good it can even pass the strictest of environmental and health testing. Greener than green, this product has no harmful effects either in mixing, usage, blending, or disposal. B9™ is a zero maintenance, sustainable catalyst, producing High-Grade Hydrogen. We are very proud of this fact!
-
Has the product been designed with a low-carbon footprint? We have invested a lot of time and thought into the design of the HydroDrive with one of the goals being to make a product that uses as many recycled materials as humanly possible. The housing and the En-Cell are made from more than 80% recycled plastic and steel. Although we hope one day to be able to improve that to as near 100% as possible. A continuous process of improvement for Smart-H!
-
What effect do diesel emissions have on the public’s health?PM2.5 emissions from diesel exhausts on trucks, buses and plant machinery contain high levels of black carbon, which has been found to be 4 to 9 times more deadly than other types of PM2.5. It is a serious issue to human health worldwide in both respiratory and cancer related diseases. Smart-H and the Mayor of London are in complete agreement!
